ICanHasCheezburger: Where to turn in a time of crisis

By Emily Price

There’s no denying that we’re facing touch economic times. There’s a noticeable decline in the amount of web start-ups popping up, and a lot of the recent start-ups have started to fold one-by-one. Even online giant AOL is shutting the doors of many of its divisions in order to save some cash. One company it appears is managing to brave the economic in style; ICanHasCheezburger home of the ever so popular LOLCats is seeing a substantial increase in traffic.

Between September and October of this year the company reported receiving 128.3 million total page views, with 6.3 million unique visitors across their network. Those numbers are a 23% increase over their previous page view numbers. They also reported a 43.5% increase in revenue in August after adding two new websites to their network, with that increase dropping considerably in the following two months to 11.5% in September, 9.4% in October.

In order to combat declining ad sales like most of the web the company has started selling retail merchandise and has created three books (one already in stores) featuring some of the sites best pictures.

It seems that in a time of crisis, we all turn to humorous websites to ease the pain. Not familiar with ICanHasCheezeburger? Check out some of their sites below:
