Masher beta is now available for DIY video mash ups
By Susan Wilson
Many people think that all computer technology is for do-it-yourselfers (DIY) who like to tinker with things like machines and computer programs. Those tend to be the “it’s not working” hand wavers for whom turning on the computer is a major accomplishment. A new Web site will now let you upload your own videos and pictures or use public domain videos to mix and match to create your own videos.
The beta of Masher.com is now available for creating mash ups of your pictures and videos. The site has a variety of options that are easy to access and use.
First, Masher has videos available from the BBC, Rip Curl, and Urban Freestyler that you can use to play around with and get the feel for how the process works. The maximum length for any mash up video is 10 minutes. There is a lot of editing and mashing that you can do in 10 minutes.
To get you started, Masher has the “studio” equipped with the free videos, music, effects, transitions, skins, text and themes. The quickest way to learn how to the studio is to use a few of the free videos and start experimenting.
Choosing a theme is the easiest way to get started. By choosing a theme, you don’t need to worry about the other options like effects transitions and skins. Each theme has all of those items built in.
If you want to learn how to use the different effects, transitions etc., then you need to choose various public videos and start playing with the different options. The effects and transitions are fun to mix and match. The studio allows you to quickly change between different options and see the results.
The final mashed up videos can be saved as public or private videos. Then you can do it all again with a different combination of clips and photos of your own.
Masher is great fun for people who like to explore their creative side. You can play with different combinations of video, and other elements as often and as long as you like.
