Amazon is running 99 cent movie rentals, the economy must be bad

By Susan Wilson

Amazon is running 99 cent movie rentals, the economy must be bad Amazon is offering rental movies for 99 cents.  I’m not talking movies that are five to ten years old, I mean movies that are within the past year like the remake of The Incredible Hulk.

This Christmas season is predicted to be one of the worst for retail sales in recent history.  It has already started out poorly.

Yes, Amazon is noted for good deals but I don’t remember 99 cent movie rentals.  I know that Amazon frequently will provide downloadable movies cheaper than you can buy them on DVD, but 99 cents?

Amazon is going to offer a different set of movies each week for 99 cents.  The current offerings are The Incredible Hulk, Get Smart, and Sisters of the Traveling Pants2

There are also several TV show seasons that are under $10, like The Starter Wife, and Destination Truth, season 2.  More popular shows like House, and Monk can be purchased for $14.99 per season for certain seasons.  Still others like Dexter are in the $20 range.

Black Friday sales are already underway on Amazon with such diverse products as a 42” Sharp 1080 LCD TV for $999 and a Black and Decker cordless screwdriver for $12.12.

Sears is running a Pre-Thanksgiving sale before its Black Friday sale.  Kohl’s is also running a Pre-Thanksgiving sale and will be opening at 4 am on Friday, a time guaranteed to normally irritate the sales force.  This year Kohl’s sales force will probably be thankful that they have jobs.

With layoffs coming from Google and Palm, joining the layoffs from the housing and financial sectors, this looks to be a very lean Christmas this year for many retailers whether they are online or brick and mortar.

Black Friday may carry a new connotation this year.  It may refer less to the busiest shopping day of the year than to the worst Post-Thanksgiving day sale ever.

It is bad and it’s set to get much worse for most of us at least until the end of next year.

Haven’t you been following the (global) news this past 3 months?

That is totally not true. The .99 cents movies are all crapy. Not sure why this blog says there are good movies. I have used amazon.com movies on demand for months, and there is not such thing as a good movie for $.99 cents. Read this article/ revew about amazon http://blog.bluemediaconsulting.com/?p=43
