Grocio wants to help you find the best prices and coupons on food near you
By Leslie Poston
Grocio is a new start up in stealth mode right now that is planning to help you save money before you get to the grocery store. Currently they are building a database of stores in the United States and soft launching in limited markets. It’s worth tossing your name into the notification bin if they aren’t in your area yet.
Grocio offers a few different services, but what I think will be the most popular one by far is their lowest price locator and coupon generator. This tool takes your shopping list item by item and compares the item prices at various stores. It then delivers a recommendation of which store near you has the lowest prices and how much lower the prices are.
It doesn’t stop there, however; it also gives you notes about the store, such as whether or not they accept coupons, offer double coupons, what the store address and hours are and other comments designed to help you shop. It also gives you a list of suggested coupons, including listing the earlier expiration date of the suggestions so that you know how soon you need to get to the store.
The service would really be useful to me for that feature alone. Living where I live the grocery stores tend to be scattered. Price shopping is time consuming and wastes gas in a time when gas and time are both precious resources not to be used lightly. Having a service that compares prices for me would be helpful.
Currently the service is in pre-release private beta. Accepting applications for registration in the United States (sorry Canada!), Grocio is operating in semi-stealth mode while they work out the kinks and adhere to their development schedule. Go ahead and sign up if you aren’t in an area where it is active. That way you’ll find out first when they roll it out in your area.
