UK Law firm harasses happless citizens for gay porn downloadsTorrenting, or “sharing,” files on the internet is more commonplace today than it has been ever before; those who take part in torrents are aware of the legal implications of downloading movies, music and applications on the sly. It’s something else entirely when people who don’t even use the Internet are accused of downloading illegally, and not just downloading family movies like Kung Fu Panda…try hardcore gay porn titles.

UK law firm Davenport Lyons has been on a witch hunt for anyone and everyone who has downloaded gay German porn movies, such as “Army Fuckers,” according to The Guardian. Though everyone is entitled to their preferences for that sort of thing, the folks with whom lawsuits are being filed aren’t really openly big fans of porn. In fact, some don’t even know how to use the Internet.

Two people from Hertfordshire were hurt and offended that the law firm contacted them by way of lawsuit, alleging that the couple downloaded the hardcore porn and infringed on copyright restrictions. The firm also demanded the couple pay over 500 pounds for their infraction. The couple is so internet-naive that they have to have their son download material from Apple iTunes…real pirates, right?

Others have been harassed by the firm for this and other pornographic films. While the firm insists that it intends only to protect the interests of its clients against copyright infringement, the way it is identifying pirates is starting to seem unfair. Though historically pirates have been identified by their IP addresses, questions have arisen in regards to whether that is a legitimate way of identifying internet thieves.

That is because stealing an internet signal is easier than ever. If someone jumps on your wireless network and downloads a file illegally, should you be blamed…let alone sued? But then the other side of the argument might hold that, if IP address owners can’t be held accountable, it really will be impossible for those with copyrights to receive the protection they deserve.

With that issue left to be resolved, what is certain now is that either there are a lot of dishonest downloaders of gay porn in the UK, or a UK firm is exploiting those who can’t afford to defend themselves against such allegations. If there is a moral to this tale, it is that you should be sure to secure your personal network, lest you be accused of enjoying hardcore gay porn, and at a hefty expense at that.
