Notify Me When It’s Up: Find out when down websites are up and running
By Emily Price
We’ve all probably had a frustrating experience at one point or another with a down Web site. Be it a blog you’re particularly into, a shopping site, or the latest viral video who’s server couldn’t handle a big surge in Web traffic when it got popular–down Web sites are no fun. Now a new Web site will let you know when your site of choice is back up again, so you don’t have to keep hitting that refresh button.
The idea behind NotifyMeWhenItsUp is just as simple as its interface. The sites sole purpose it to notify you when a particular Web site is back up and running. To use the service all you have to do is input the site address of the website that is currently down, as well as your email address. When the site is back up and running NotifyMeWhenItsUp will send you email letting you know.
That’s really it.
For people like me who tend to run into down Web sites on a daily basis this service is pretty useful. If the site never comes back up theoretically you’d never get an email, but often times when it’s a server issue a site may only be up for a short period of time before it drops off again- it would be nice to know when that brief period of time starts so I can check it out.
If something doesn’t work the first time I’m also likely to forget about it and maybe never visit the site again (unless it’s one of my favorites) so it’s nice to have a little reminder that the sites around and is really for my perusal.
In dealing with down Web sites another cool one to check out is Down For Everyone of Just Me? Which can let you check if a Web site is down because of a problem on your end, or if it’s down for everyone.
