uTest finds Internet Explorer is worst browser
Users from 68 countries have rated their browser experience and sent uTest on the most bugs in the top three Web browsers. Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3.1 and Google Chrome were on the list.
Over the course of one week, 672 bugs were found across all three browsers. IE8 came in with 169 bugs, Firefox with 207 bugs and Chrome with 297 bugs. A minority of the faults were found to cause browsers to cease functioning completely (lock up or crash).
MarketWatch reports the CEO of uTrust had the following statement,
During this first Bug Battle, the uTest community discovered one bug every 15 minutes in the three leading browsers; the good news, however, is the fact that no ’showstopper’ security flaws were found.
Internet Explorer was the only one that did not receive any “excellent” ratings. Of the some 1,300 users, 55 percent said Firefox, 30 percent said IE and 6 percent were for Chrome.
Chrome may have had the most bugs but the fact it received at least a few “excellent” ratings says something. It says that even though something may be full of bugs, speed and overall usability “most of the time” outweigh the negative side. If someone can think of something good to say about Internet Explorer please do so. I wouldn’t go around defending that position though.
It’s a shame that Safari and Opera were not rated. Granted, Opera has a small market share but it should still be a consideration. As for Safari I would put it even with Firefox and far ahead of Internet Explorer. IE6 was not tested nor was IE7 which is surprising considering IE7 is the most used browser.
None of the browsers in this test were final versions. IE8, Chrome and Firefox 3.1 are still in early beta or testing stages. It would have be nice to see tests between IE7, Firefox 3.0, Safari and Opera. Which would have been just a bit more relevant.
