Pandora passes 20 million registered users

By Emily Price

Pandora has officially passed the 20 million mark of registered users. The Internet radio site appears to be bustling with success even after having to recently layoff employees and (much like everyone else) deal with a rapidly weakening economy.

The Internet radio service scored close to 5 million unique visitors in November of this year, close to twice what Last.fm was able to get and very similar to the numbers Imeem was getting. While the service is being dwarfed by MySpace Music (pulling in a whopping 17.8 million unique views last month) it’s definitely holding it’s own.

One thing that’s really helped Pandora in the past few months has been it’s iPhone application. The application has remained on the top free iPhone apps list since it was introduced and is currently number 21. The application undoubtedly brought more users to the service who want to solely use Pandora on their iPhones, adding a whole new demographic of users to the site.

I’ve personally been using Pandora for quite a while. I used the Web app at work I feel like since its beginning days, and I downloaded onto my iPhone the day applications became available on the phone.

One thing I really like about the iPhone application is that it shows the cover art for the particular album you’re listening to on the screen much like you were listening to it on your iPod.

Both the web app and the iPhone application also give you the ability to tag songs you might want to purchase later, and the music selections seem to be getting progressively better (or maybe just my taste is getting better).

With all those rumors that went around a few months ago about them shutting their doors, I’m glad to see the doors are still open and they seem to be doing well.

Any of you big Pandora fans?
