Electric cigarettes and cigars for your healthy smoking pleasure

What the…? I watched my parents die of smoking related cancers and my grandmother die of smoking related emphysema, so the thought of a “healthy” cigarette or cigar or pipe is almost blasphemous. My son still smokes (go figure) and the thought that there might be a healthy alternative to his Marlboro habit is intriguing.
The Desonic Cigarette web page is written in that strange “Oriental English” that uses real English words in a somewhat fractured way. For instance:

Electronic cigarette’s for your “health care”? What a weird idea. I can see Nicorette gum or Nicoderm patches as health care products but not electric cigarettes.
It seems like the high tech method of addiction. Yet, electronic cigarettes and cigars allow you to “smoke” without getting the lung destroying substances, tar and nicotine. Supposedly you get the “same feeling of a tobacco cigar or cigarette”. How you get the same feeling without the negative side effects must be a company secret. You can smoke (it does emit smoke) without creating real second hand smoke. You do have to recharge your cigarette battery and so a nifty USB charger is included. Now you can smoke without injuring yourself or others.
The cigarettes and cigars are composed “of a stainless steel shell, lithium ion battery, micro-electronic circuit, atomizing chamber, and indicator light at the head of the unit”. This high technology allows the smoker to imitate the real experience of smoking. So, you can be part of the smoking culture without the fear of cancer or emphysema. Sort of the faux bad boy image thang.
This electronic cigarette can also be used in a smoking cessation plan. It comes with four different levels of “basic tastes”, “high, medium, low and zero nicotine thickness cartridges”. Smokers can wean themselves off of the addictive properties of cigarettes without having to actually give up cigarettes or the behaviors that go with the addiction.
Desonic has not disclosed how much their imitation smoking cigarette, cigar or pipe will cost. Since smokers only need to buy one, no matter what the cost it has to be cheaper than constantly buying packs or cartons of cigarettes.
It also can’t hurt that smokers and those around them will live longer.

This is a classic example of amateurish and lazy journalism. Verification of truth in the internet age really ain’t that different. The electronic cigarette produces VAPOUR and involves the “smoking”, for lack of a better word, of vapour. For the difference between VAPOUR and SMOKE, as well as the definition of a FACT, see the below from wikipedia.

Hi Susan,
Google reader pointed me to your website (I have a RSS for any e-cig posts). As a e-cig user myself, I thought I would clarify what it is.
Although e-cigs can be used for smoking cessation, their main use is a safe way to get nicotine. The e-cig heats a combination of nicotine, glycerin, and flavoring into a vapor that is inhaled. We call it “vaping” =)
Nicotine it self is not bad for you; it is all the other additives in cigarettes that cause cancer and other health related issues. In fact, nicotine in small quantities actually improves memory retention!
There are also many types of e-cig products with the most popular 2 in the US being puresmoker.com and http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com
I highly suggest you get one of these for your son!

Electric is the way to go now, if the electric cigarette gives you a solution to your nicotine addiction, the electric vehicle gives you a solution to your oil addiction. The answer to pollution, dwindling oil supplies and climate change, the EV is a concept that has arrived in a big way.

I love the electronic cigarettes! I started a year ago and can’t get over how healthy these things are and how I can smoke them anywhere and not smell or have my lungs feel like ive been smoking a real one…I started with one of the first and best companys going, CROWN7. Just wanted to say healthy may not be the best way to word it. Is there anything in them that may be bad for you?
now that being said I have been using e-cigs for about 3 months now. I feel better I breath better and my daily 20 minute coughing session every morning is long gone.
they may not exactly be good for you but they just about have to be better than the average 4000+ chemical 60+ carcinogen cigarettes that big tabaco has been addicting us to.
If you really are interested in changing your sons habits for the better I suggest shopping around. Do a search for e cigarette forums and read up before wasting money on a bad product when there are several good ones out there.
Puresmoker is a good place to start.

Yes, they seem to be a MUCH healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes. Besides not having all the nasty carcinogens that cigarettes have, they do not produce the tar which turns a smoker’s lungs from pink to black. I feel much better since I switched.
Too bad the FDA is probably going to ban them soon. Big Brother looks out for Big Tobacco and Big Pharma – not us.
