Tivo finally upgrades search interface
The good news is that Tivo has finally gotten around to upgrading its search interface. The bad news is that the update will only be available to Tivo Series 3 and HD system owners. Sneak peek after the jump.
Tivo owners that do have a Series 3 or HD system with a broadband connection should be receiving the update at some point today. Those with HD systems will see a search experience that’s in HS and supports wide screen formats.
Search results will now be displayed in a visual format at the top of the screen as you type. As you scroll through results, you will also see program data displayed for the highlighted program.
The visual display of search results is very appealing as compared to the previous program listings. The results focus on popular content and narrow in on other programming as you continue to type.
In addition to offering an HD interface, Tivo is also featuring HD content in the search results. The system will promote your HD lineup programming over regular versions so you see programs in the best possible format.
Tivo is also working on improving the relevance of its search results. By keeping track of the most popular results for the day, your Tivo system will have its pulse on the latest programming content on television.
Additionally, Tivo is including the ability to browse through every season of a program to find specific episodes. It’s not clear yet whether that functionality provides the ability to record the episode or download it from available sources.
Tivo will be including Amazon Unbox in the search results as well. While it provides more options for On-Demand viewing, some users could be frustrated by finding premium content in their search results.
Overall this search update should be a nice surprise for Tivo owners. Tivo DVRs offer a good overall user experience and it’s high time that the search experience live up to the legend.
