Fuji develops a land fill friendly battery: the EnviroMAX
By Susan Wilson
Everyone knows that the most environmentally friendly batteries are rechargeable and one time use batteries will pollute the environment. Now there is a throw away battery that can be thrown away like normal garbage and doesn’t release harmful substances that can leak into local water supplies or soil.
Fuji’s new EnviroMAX alkaline batteries are free of the heavy metals cadmium and mercury found in other batteries. Unlike most batteries, EnviroMAX is not packaged in (polyvinyl chloride) PVC plastic, also known as the Poison Plastic.
The packaging and labels for these batteries are made from recycled paper and polyethylene terephthalate (P.E.T.) plastic. P.E.T. plastic is the easiest plastic to recycle unlike PVC.
Testing on these batteries shows that they are equal to or exceed regular batteries in power and life span. These batteries have a shelf life of seven years and work in a wide range of temperatures.
The EnviroMAX batteries are extremely safe. Unlike most C and D batteries, if you insert these batteries in the wrong way, they won’t destroy the toy, flashlight or boom box they are incorrectly placed in. These batteries come in standard sizes for a variety of uses.
The plants that manufacture the batteries are also environmentally friendly.
Fuji EnviroMAX batteries are made in some of the world’s most eco-friendly battery plants, operating under some of the most strict standards of environmental responsibility. In fact, most of all resources used in the Fuji EnviroMAX manufacturing process are reused and recycled.
Fuji has worked hard to create not only green batteries but a green process for producing the batteries. The batteries come in both “digital” and “super alkaline” flavors and are supposed to be “competitively priced”. That could mean that these batteries are not as outrageously priced as many green items are.
Even though rechargeable, reusable batteries are the ultimate in environmentally friendly, there are times when single use batteries are either all you can find or the best choice for the item-noisy toys for example.
Fuji is providing a green alternative to the normal single use batteries that pollute while cleaning up the process as well.
