Check out the new Mode in recycling
Imagine a recycling center in your home that crushes plastic bottles and drink cans. Now imagine paying $250 for such a recycling center.
Mode is offering just such an appliance. It is called the Premium All-In-One Home Recycling Center. It has some neat features but still, for the price, you would expect it to walk the recycling out to the curb for you.
The Home Recycling Center has two compartments on the top. The back compartment is a 30 liter/8 gallon bin for glass, plastic and cans. The front compartment holds the “compactor”. In order to compact drink cans and bottles, you place the item in the compactor aligned with the correct illustration, close the lid, step on the pedal, and listen to it crush the can or bottle. The compactor section then deposits the crushed item in the back recycling bin.
At the front of the Center is a slot for dropping in recyclable mail like catalogs, brochures and other junk mail. You can also pull the bin forward for any other paper or cardboard recyclables that you may have. The bin holds 20 liters/5 gallons of paper and junk mail.
On the front of the Center above the paper recycling bin, is a display that will remind you to take out the recycling bins (or bags that can be used with the bins). You can set any day and time that you want.
The front display can also has an “Eco-Track” feature. The display can show you the combined weight of your recycling bins rounded down to the nearest half-pound. It will also allow you to monitor the total amount of recycling by week, bi-weekly, or monthly by adding up the amount of weight in the bins per recycling load removed.
Depending on how you do your recycling, you can leave your recycling in the bins for toting to a recycling center or placement at the street. If your waste management company/garbage company requires you to bag your recyclables, you can also purchase clear bags with the recycling logo on them to go in the bins.
Last, but certainly not least, since recyclables can smell even when rinsed out, the Center also has a place where you can place a carbon filter to eliminate the odor.
The All-In-One Home Recycling Center includes a lot of nice features, but you can create a similar system for a lot less money. Recycling bins can be purchased or leased from most waste management/garbage companies or can be purchased from Lowe’s or Home Depot. Manual can compactors can also be found pretty easily. Stepping on cans and bottles also works.
Should you want to purchase the Mode All-In-One Home Recycling Center, you can get it at Brookstone for $249.95 plus shipping.
