Blackberry rules in gadgets for CEOs survey
By Gareth Powell
Blackberry seems to still be the favored form of communication for high fliers. A survey of 16 chief executive officers of major companies, all seriously successful business travelers, showed the Blackberry was the favorite means of communication and also the favorite gadget.
Nokia took the lead when it came to straight mobile phones, and notebook computers were almost anything.
Some comments from the survey which show the immense need to stay always in complete communication with the home office and customers.
- I am an iPhone cultist.
- I live, sleep and definitely never leave home without with my BlackBerry Curve.
- I use my BlackBerry’s digital camera for point-and- shoot pictures.
- Nokia 6310i may be old fashioned but it is ‘bullet proof’.
- I’m totally reliant on my BlackBerry 8820. I also carry two personal mobile phones – Nokia 3210s – to avoid roaming charges.
- I carry a BlackBerry 8320. It changes your life.
- I say I have a third arm — my BlackBerry. I spend a lot of time with it at night. So maybe it’s not really a third arm — maybe it’s more like a lover.
- I always travel with my BlackBerry Bold for e-mailing and working.
- I have a relatively old Vodafone BlackBerry. I’m one of those people who doesn’t like to relearn technology.
- My Sony Vaio VGN-560P laptop can connect to the internet through my Palm Treo’s Bluetooth.
- I swear when I quit working, I’m going to throw away my BlackBerry and go off the net. But because of my job I live with my BlackBerry 8830 — I don’t use any function other than e-mail.
- I go nowhere without my Vaio laptop. It is small, light and durable, and I use it for all e-mails.
- I have only devices I really need: a Vaio PCG-6J3L laptop, Sony Ericsson K790i mobile phone (not a smartphone) and a camera, also Sony.
- I always have my Dell Latitude D430 and my new slimline BlackBerry.
This survey was carried out by assorted Financial Times correspondents who tend to be seriously honest. So for chief executive officers, at least, Blackberry rules.
