Aniston dumps Mayer over his Twitter-holism
John Mayer found out what’s worse than getting ‘Facebook fired’ after neglecting the lovely Jennifer Aniston in favor of micro-blogging service Twitter. Was that the only reason or is it also a case of their generation gap coming back to bite them?
Mayer and Aniston have been entwined in an on-again, off-again romance since April of last year. Now the Telegraph is reporting that the two have broken up again – this time because of Mayer’s appetite for Twitter.
The rumor is that while John claimed to be too busy to spend time with Aniston, he was constantly updating his Twitter stream @johncmayer. Jen decided that he was obviously avoiding her and broke it off with Mayer.
A source says, “Every few hours, sometimes minutes, he’d update with some stupid line. And in her mind, she was like ‘He has time for all this Twittering, but he can’t send me a text, an email, make a call?’.”
It’s possible that Mayer really was avoiding her, but it could also be related to their age difference. Aniston is pushing 40 while Mayer, just 31, grew up with computers and the Internet his entire life.
Updating your status message is fairly quick and easy, and can serve to help keep your friends and loved ones in the loop at all times. Granted it’s not the same as private time with your significant other, but it’s not necessarily a sign of retreat.
Besides, anyone who is familiar with social networking tools knows how addictive they can be for the first few weeks or even months on a new service. Especially on that is live and full of interesting conversations even when it’s four in the morning.
Either way, it’s a good lesson that sometimes it’s a good idea to slowly back away from the keyboard. Or, if you’re that hooked, find a girl that’s on Twitter so you can @ reply her without ever having to disconnect.
