Verizon has condemned rival Cablevision’s promise of a 101Mbps broadband package as nothing more than “a parlor trick.” It says there’s little hope of customers getting the promised speed given the way Cablevision operates.

L’oreal’s Libramont plant in Belgium is expected to finish work on an anaerobic digestion power plant later this summer. The plant will use a slurry made from local cow manure as its basic source of methane gas.

After posting lackluster earnings for the first quarter, Yahoo is laying off 600 employees and shuttering its Columbus office. The surprise is that Flickr was hit especially hard by these cuts, losing a number of its few remaining engineers.

Last September, the world was abuzz with news and views on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) located at CERN headquarters in Switzerland. Unfortunately, the experiments to try and find the so called God particle had to be temporarily put on hold. But not for long.

The free music streaming service Spotify launched six months ago and has since racked up an incredible 1 million subscribers in the UK. Not bad for an island with a population of just over 60 million. The new UK managing director of the company, Paul Brown, recently spoke about the future of the service.

The Eco-Tourism resort planned near Anza, California will be 100 percent off-grid. The Ramona Band of the Cahuilla Indian Tribe is planning this resort as an environmentally sustainable project that can be used as a model by other Indian Tribes. The first phase of the resort is expected to be ready by August of 2009.

The Department of Justice (DoJ) is investigating the deal which settled Google’s legal troubles with the publishing industry over the Google Book Search system. The investigation relates to out-of-copyright books, though a separate legal change affects current authors.

Blu-ray may now just be starting to make inroads into the market share DVD holds, but it could be that its days are already numbered. General Electric is working on developing a micro-holographic storage solution which would see 500GB of data stored on a single DVD-sized disc. Now that’s impressive.

That’s an interesting question. Beginning next year most major car manufacturers in the United States and several overseas car manufacturers will have either hybrid or electric vehicles for sale. One county has proposed banning gasoline-only cars.

The iPhone is an amazing piece of kit. I may not be a big fan of the way Apple does business, but I have to admit to the ingenuity and innovation of the iPhone. If you’re still not sold on it, consider the fact that musician Gary Go is going to replace his backing band with his iPhone when he supports Take That at Wembley stadium in London.
