Podio and the Tonium Pacemaker: a new wave of PMPs
By Emily Price
Personal music players (PMPs) are exceptionally popular these days. Most music lovers are now in possession of an iPod or some other PMP that plays digital music. This week two new PMP’s were announced that both add an interesting twist to your traditional MP3 player; one letting you listen to tunes on your bicycle, and the other allowing you to remix tracks on built-in turntables while you’re on the go.

The Tonium Pacemaker Pocket DJ is an MP3 player with a 60GB capacity. The device touts itself as the world’s first “pocket-sized DJ system” and has two miniature turntables and a mixer built-in. The device has two independent audio channels so you can play two different tracks simultaneously, and can beat match by pressing a button on the front of the device. The Tonium Pacemaker Pocket DJ is available through Amazon now for $499.99.

Podio announced an 2GB MP3 player this week for your bicycle. The device comes with a kit that allows you to connect the player to he handlebars of your bike, and the PMP has a built-in speaker so you can rock out to your favorite jams without having to put on headphones. The player is expected to get anywhere between nine and 20 hours of battery life, with the amount of power determine by how loud you have your music playing. The Podio also allows you to attach a set of headphones, giving you 60 hours of music per battery charge. No word on when the Podio will be available or what pricing will look like for the device.
I think both of these new devices are pretty innovative takes on the traditional MP3 player. What sorts of MP3 player variations would you like to see companies start coming out with?
