If you don't have a dog, I suggest connecting a computer directly to your cable modem. Reboot both, and try visiting web sites again. This will allow you to determine if the problem is your router. If you still can't access web sites, you know the problem is either your computer, your Internet connection, or your network cable. To narrow this down, change the network cable and try again. Following that, try connecting another computer (hopefully a laptop), to the modem (reboot both again when you change the computer connected to your modem). At this point you will have isolated the problem.

I can't testify to the quality of companies like Geek Squad, Geeks on Call, etc., but I can tell you Geeks on Wheels provides serious career computer technicians and network engineers are very reasonable rates. Geeks on Wheels is only in New York, however, if you determine that the problem is with your computer and you are in New York, I do recommend you give them a ring at 914-562-1800.

Checking for a virus is also a good step in the troubleshooting process. There are many very prevalent virii that mask the ability to go to certain sites.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone walking their cat...
