I don’t see it as encouraging. In fact, I see BR and DVD as a step backward, since we now have wonderful region encoding, and there are parts of a movie we can’t skip past. I will never buy any DVD or BR product.

Yes… you make SO much sense, the studios are holding out on Blu-ray because they have not converted all of their old catalog movies to Blu-ray. They should also look into converting VHS, Betamax, 2″ Quad (1950’s) all into Blu-ray as well.

…because Blu-ray will flop soon and all the studios know this and all market signs and trends indicate this as well. Also all the analysts are incorrect as well as journalists because they look at numbers and facts. ;)

sure blu ray was developed by more than one company but sony owns the name and all the rights to the blu ray name.even though most of the new movies released are on blu ray most of the older movies are not on blu ray.movies like titanic,star wars and the older indiana jones movies.i can go on all day telling you what movies are not on blu ray but it would take too long to do it.

I thought the BD format was owned by a consortium. If memory serves, there’s 9 businesses in it, of which Sony is one of them.

by the time that blu ray takes over a new format will be ready to take over blu ray. it will take years before blu ray takes over which is why the studios are holding out on releasing most of their top titles on blu ray.if you think that the world is sitting back and waiting for sony to be the sole owner of the only format available for movies on disc then think again.
