Babyglow helps parents regulate their child’s body temperature

By Dave Parrack

Babyglow helps parents regulate their child's body temperature Some inventions change lives, some don’t. Some inventions make our lives easier, others just make life more entertaining. Then there are the ones which actively save lives, and that’s the group a new all-in-one baby grow fits in to.

I haven’t got any kids and, quite frankly, I never want any. Call me miserable, call me misguided, but why would I want to burden myself with something that would essentially rely on me for the next two decades? Then there’s the worry, the sleepless nights, the fears of being labeled a bad parent. No, it’s really not for me.

But I have to face facts that millions of people do decide to become parents. Luckily, there are inventors and creative people out there trying to make their lives easier and more fulfilling. A 42-year-old, father of one, pub landlord called Chris Ebejer is the latest man to join these ranks.

According to The Telegraph, Ebejer has developed a product called Babyglow which will help parents to recognize when their baby is overheating. This is needed because, apparently, for the first two years of their lives, children cannot regulate their own body temperature, instead relying on their parents to do so when needed to.

Ebejer thought up the idea of the Babyglow after watching a documentary on baby body temperature. He then spent six years developing the heat sensitive baby grow, which changes color to indicate the body temperature of the baby has risen above the normal 98F (37C). He said:

Heat is invisible. The suits changes that and make it visible. It communicates to the mother where a baby can’t. It doesn’t matter how much or how little experience a mother has – it is very hard to spot the early signs of a baby overheating.

The Babyglow, which comes in blue, pink, and green, but changes white when the body temperature starts to rise, works by the use of an ink pigment containing heat sensitive molecules. Ebejer has signed a £12.5 million ($18 million) deal which will see 900,000 of the Babyglow baby grows produced every month. And with such a brilliant, possibly life-saving product, I can see all those being snapped up quite easily.
