The end is nigh for Perez Hilton – celebrity blogger losing it

The end is nigh for Perez Hilton - celebrity blogger losing itPerez Hilton is huge, and not just in the belly department. Here’s a man who became a celebrity for mocking the cult of celebrity and the people involved in it. But a couple of rather major events have recently rocked Perez Hilton the man. Could these have an effect on Perez Hilton the site as well?

If you haven’t at least heard of PerezHilton.com then you must have been living under a rock for the past few years. Here is the original big-hitting and ultra-snarky celebrity gossip site which started the trend for mercilessly mocking celebrities for their looks, their public and private lives, and the way they conduct themselves.

Perez Hilton is compulsive reading. It’s like being able to anonymously read the most tawdry and downmarket tabloid and means being able to laugh at all the rich and powerful celebrities as they head for meltdown. It’s not a particularly well-written blog, and it certainly isn’t clever, always aiming to please the lowest common denominator. But this style of reporting tittle-tattle has turned Perez Hilton into a hugely popular site.

However, as the site has grown in stature and page views, Perez Hilton the man has turned into a monster. Now considered a celebrity in his own right, he’s ripe for the same mocking and gutter press targeting that he himself has inflicted on other celebrities for years. And it’s coming back to bite him on the bum.

Last week started with Perez Hilton getting into a fight with Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas and his manager. Perez insulted Will.i.am using language derogatory to the gay community and allegedly got a punch in the face for his trouble. He then tweeted and posted a video whining about his treatment, even though most people, celebrity or otherwise, thought he’d finally got what he deserved.

Then the week ended with the biggest celebrity story of the decade – the death of Michael Jackson. TMZ.com, a rival of PerezHilton.com, broke the news first. Perez reacted in his usual style, by publishing a post stating he doubted the singer was ill, and accusing Jackson and his team of staging a stunt in order to get him out of the upcoming 50-date run of concerts in London. Hours later, Jackson was declared dead, and Hilton quietly removed the post from the site.

I don’t doubt for a second PerezHilton.com will continue for years to come, making Perez even richer than he already is. But it looks as though the incredible rise to fame Perez Hilton has enjoyed could soon be at an end. When the people turn against you, they turn against you for good. And it seems many dislike the way Hilton has been behaving of late. Being a celebrity clearly isn’t as easy as it looks, eh Perez.

I think it is odd that this article seems to leave out many glaring facts, such as: Perez was assaulted by Black Eyed Peas road manager because he was confronted regarding what he writes on his website–they were telling him to stop writing about the. The road manager gave the Toronto PD an alias and is currently on probation for a DUI. And the incident was not incited by Perez using the slur (for which he has apologized) and while it is clear you have a bias against him, it does not justify giving him a beatdown.

  2. James:

actually BettyK…What instigated the whole argument between Perez and Will I Am’s manager WAS the use of Perez’s choice to call Will I Am a faggot. If you actually took the time to LOOk at the video of the fight you will clearly see that Perez is the instigator of the argument. HE was asked to not be so RUDE when writing about them. Not to STOP writing about the as Perez stated. i find it funny that you support someone who supposedly feels justification to call people faggots when he himself is a homosexual supposedly FIGHTING for gay rights. he’s a disgrace and he got what was coming to him. I don’t condone violence of any sort, but violent WORDS are just as bad. And Perez instigated this fight.

PS: That apology he gave was a ho hum sad attempt to once again victimize himself. you have to be a real dumb ass to fall for it.

No, no, Fergie/Will I Am approached Perez, that’s what instigated it.

The whole think ESCALATED from both sides and it began at different venues, yes words are violent, but it’s stupid to only take aim at Perez and at his ‘violence’ while some a-hole SUCKER PUNCHED him from the side, everyone talks crap ALL the time not in public forums, and they have what coming to them? A bad day? Puhleeze. So easy to go at a blogger, ANY blogger that speaks their mind and call it karma.

PerezHilton was a guilty pleasure of mine, until recent events. Now I avoid the site, though my wife assures me that he is eating crow and hasn’t been very controversial since MMVA incident. Although this is the first either of us heard about his original speculation on the news about MJ going to hospital, before his death was announced.

Perez got what was coming to him. He has made himself a celebrity (and rich in the process) by riding on the backs of people who (might) actually own their celebrity, be it talent or family or whatever.

He is nothing better than a realtime tabloid. He showed his true, self serving side in these events. His ego has overcome his original passion for mindlessly spoofing celebrity. When someone thinks they have become a weathervane, a big storm usually comes along to knock them down. This storm has been brewing for a long time.

Yeah perez has put his foot in his mouth more than once in the past month but to say he is not clever is just a lie!! And who gives a shit if he makes fun of celebrities he just says what everyone else is thinking!!!
