Rumor: Apple iPod event set for Sept. 9, Apple tablet to be no show
The Apple tradition of an iPod announcement event in September looks set to continue, but it looks like the Apple Tablet will continue to remain under wraps for the time being.
As we reported last week, Apple is planning an event for the week of Sept. 7. Well while it was a rumor then, and still is today, a more reliable source has now confirmed the story in the form of John Paczkowski over at All Things D. According to Mr. Paczkowski, his sources have told him that the event is a definite for Wednesday, Sept. 9 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Fransisco, CA.
While it looks to be centered on the annual update of the various iPod devices, the big question mark hanging over the event is whether or not the long rumored Apple Tablet device would make its debut this year. Well the sources that spoke with Mr. Paczkowski are saying that there will be no mention of the device which pretty much guarantees we won’t be seeing it before the holiday shopping season this year, and more than likely it won’t debut until some time in 2010.
The second noteworthy thing is if this will be when Steve Jobs will finally decide to resurface into the public eye. Mr. Jobs has not made a public appearance at an Apple event since October 2008. He took a six month leave of absence over a health issue from Jan. to June of this year, and since his return to the company, he has only been spotted around the company campus a few times. His resurfacing with his beloved iPod line would seem like the perfect time for him to come back as the public face of the company.
The most interesting new rumor is could the date of Sept. 9, 2009 have some sort of connection to The Beatles music catalog finally appearing on iTunes? It just so happens to be the same day as The Beatles edition of Rockband hits stores, so it would seem like the perfect day to finally see those classic tunes hit the biggest seller of digital music.
It should prove to be an interesting day!
