Annoying you on a train soon: The dual-screen laptop
These days it’s not uncommon for desktop users to run two monitors at once. But now a laptop manufacturer is planning to launch a model with two full-sized screens.
The design behind the Spacebook is remarkably simple: one screen slots behind the other in normal use, but both 15.4” screens slide apart when needed to provide a dual-display. Great news if you’ve got plenty of work to monitor on the move; not so great news if you’re the sucker sitting in the adjacent seat on a train or plane.
The laptop will be aimed particularly at people working with multimedia such as filmmakers or graphic designers who need to see a lot of visual information at once. The device has also attracted the interest of the Department of Homeland Security, while an exclusive model is in the works for the Navy, designed specifically to have a more rugged casing suitable for extreme environments.
Manufacturer gScreen says it is still tweaking the power supply and the sliding mechanism but insists it will be on sale through Amazon by the end of the year. It’ll be available for international delivery from the start, but should be stocked by overseas Amazon sites during the first half of next year.
The aim is to keep the price under $3,000, but it’s clearly designed to be a high-end model; the specs include fast 320GB hard drives and 4GB of RAM. The company is planning smaller-sized models later on.
The biggest potential drawback to the device is its weight. The Gizmodo website – which has the first images of the device, including the one shown above – estimates the casing alone will be at least twelve pounds.
This isn’t the first laptop with two screens (Lenovo has a model with a smaller flip-out screen), but is the first where both screens are the same size.

Last week I was looking to buy a laptop computer table for the refurbished laptop computer in my home office but I’m finding that I can get significantly better prices online instead of going to my local Office Depot, in many instances 50%-70% cheaper. The only bad thing is that I have to wait a couple days to get it sent to me.
