2009 iPod lineup announced, the iPod Nano comes out the big winner
Apple has hosted its annual iPod event, and while some of the rumors that lead up to the event proved to be true, others were completely off the mark.
Every September Apple brings members of the media together to announce its new lineup of iPods before the holiday shopping season begins. This year was no different, but what was a big surprise was how much love the iPod Nano received compared to the rest of the product line.
Leading up to the event, numerous rumors circulated that the iPod Touch receiving a camera was a done deal, but, alas, the event has now ended and no camera was to be seen on the little cousin of the iPhone. This isn’t too say cameras were totally absent from the event, because they weren’t. The iPod Nano, the somewhat “mid-line” iPod, was the one to receive not only a camera, but the ability to shoot video.
Comparing it to the popular Flip video camera that sells for $149 for 4GBs of storage, the 8GB Nano is now selling for $149 with a video camera. While we don’t have details on the new camera yet to compare resolution and such, this is a fairly large shot across the bow of Flip.
Here’s a rundown of all the new models of iPods for 2009:
iPod Shuffle
- $59 for 2GB
- $79 for a 4GB
- $99 for a a silver special edition 4GB
- Getting more headphone options this year
iPod Nano

- $179 for 16GB

iPod Touch
- $199 for 8GB
- $299 for 32GB
- $399 for 64GB

As we said up top, the Nano was the surprising winner this year with everything else just getting the slightest of upgrades.
