Hulu launches social viewing app on Facebook

Ever wished you could watch television with your friends that are far away from you? Well, thanks to a new Facebook application from online video service Hulu, now you can.
With the fall season premieres of television shows upon us here in the United States, traffic to the Hulu site is sure to increase as people try to catch the premieres of their favorite shows. Wouldn’t it be more fun to watch them with your friends, even if they are thousands of miles away?
Hulu — the video site co-owned by NBC Universal, Fox Entertainment Group, ABC, Inc and Providence Equity Partners — has announced the launch of its Hulu: Watch Now Fall Premieres application on the Facebook social networking site. You will be able to watch shows such as Community, Fringe, Glee, The Office and numerous others. You will then be able to issue status updates from within the application to let people know what you are watching so that they can join you.
Although the name of the application specifically mentions the fall premieres, the content will be updated throughout the season so you can come back each week to view new content from your favorite shows. You will also be able to schedule times to watch shows together which will adjust for whatever time zone you happen to be in within the United States.
While this could be a lot of fun for people separated by some distance, it will of course be limited to users of Facebook in the United States as Hulu is geo-locked to the country. It’s still a great idea, and a good way to keep in touch with your friends who have moved away for any host of reasons.
