Amazon launches in-house consumer electronics lineAmazon has decided to launch a line of consumer electronics accessories that will go perfectly with all of the big ticket electronics the company already sells.

Amazon, one of the biggest online retailers in the world, has decided to launch a private-label collection of consumer electronic “basics” that is simply called, AmazonBasics.  The new product line will include blank media like CDs and DVDs, computer cables, audio visual cables and more items to be released down the road.

The new items are all supposed to focus on high quality at affordable prices, and will ship in Amazon’s Frustration-Free Packaging which is made from recycled cardboard and does not include any sort of wire ties.  In short, no frustrating plastic clam shells that no one ever seems to be able to open without injuring themselves.

“We saw an opportunity to create a line of consumer electronics basics that combine quality and low prices for an overall focus on value,” said Paul Ryder, vice president of Consumer Electronics for Amazon.com.   Mr. Ryder also went to add, “We drew on our history of developing other private-label brands and combined that with our mission to give customers the ultimate in selection and value. AmazonBasics is the result. We will continue to gather input from customers and evaluate opportunities for new products under the AmazonBasics brand. We aim to offer our customers as wide a selection as possible, and we think AmazonBasics makes a great addition to the brands we already carry.”

While the line already features such essentials as Ethernet cable, HDMI cables, an assortment of computer cables and blank media, you have to wonder where else this line might end up going.  Perhaps chargers for various electronics?  Car adapters for MP3 players?  If Amazon can deliver quality at a discount, it just might have another hit on its hands.
