Rumors around the Apple Tablet pick up even more steam
By Sean P. Aune
At this point the Apple Tablet has to be one of the most confirmed, unconfirmed products in the history of Apple. And the latest round of rumors just keeps adding fuel to the fire that this device is indeed real.
Despite there being zero official confirmation of Apple working on a tablet device, the rumors just simply won’t stop that this device is indeed real, and that it is due to be launched some time in 2010. It’s even gotten past the point where analysts are trying to predict how much money Apple will make from it in its first year of release.
To add even more fuel to the fire, iLounge was contacted by a long time, and highly reliable, source that provided them with even more details about the features of this mystery device, and even what its development has been like.
The biggest rumor this source finally put to rest was if the Apple Tablet would be running Mac OS X or the iPhone OS, and not to much surprise, it’s the iPhone OS. Honestly, it’s what makes the most sense at this point. If Apple continue with the iPhone OS, that gives the new device full run of the iTunes App Store, and considering the amount of money that is already making, it would seem silly to not let the new device play around in there also.
One of the biggest rumors has been that the device would be sporting a 10.7-inch diagonal screen, and this was confirmed by the source, although they said a 7-inch screen was tried at first, but deemed to just be too small. They also said the screen resolution would be five to six times that of the iPhone, meaning this device could be up around the 720p HD range. Which does make you wonder a little about how apps will look on it.
Apparently there will be two final versions of the device: One will have 3G connectivity, and one without. It is certainly not being designed as a phone, but as an “iPhone OS media player and light communication device”, which I take to mean if this thing has Wi-Fi, you’re looking at a killer Skype device.
An announcement is expected prior to Jan. 10, 2010, with a release some time in May or June of that year.
