Rumor: Google preparing to launch a music service named Google Audio

By Sean P. Aune

Rumor: Google preparing to launch a music service named Google AudioApparently when you’re Google, you really want to offer users reasons to never leave your sites, so why not start offering them music to boot?

As if Google didn’t have enough on its plate, there is now a rumor being reported in The Washington Post that Google is close to launching some form of music service named “Google Audio”.  To say the details are sparse would be an understatement, but rumors are reporting it is either a download store or a streaming service like Grooveshark, Pandora, Last.fm or any of the other million music services out there.

These rumors are very early days, but at this point there is nothing Google does that would surprise most people.  With the recent announcement of the Google Editions book store, a music store certainly doesn’t seem like that crazy of an expansion for the company, and it makes you wonder just how far off a movie store is so that the company can finally provide you with every form of entertainment your heart desires.

More details as they develop.
