Apple looking to bring you television for $30 a month

By Sean P. Aune

Apple looking to bring you television for $30 a monthLooking forward to the day you can just get all of your television programming over the Internet? If the rumors about Apple prove to be true, that day is quickly approaching.

According to Peter Kafka from The Wall Street Journal, Apple is talking with TV networks about bring their content to the iTunes Store on a subscription basis for its customers.  Supposedly the pricing model being pitched to the networks, Apple is aiming for a pricing model of $30 a month, well below the going rate for cable or satellite programming.

Seeing as the programming would be going through the iTunes Store, this means it should be watchable on your computer, iPhone, various models of iPod and the dismally received AppleTV.  If these rumors do prove to be true, expect to see AppleTV sales pick up.

While no networks have yet signed on to the deal, Apple will eventually have to go a long way to match the amount of programming offered by cable companies.  Even for $30, it had better be more than just the four major U.S. networks.

$30 To watch internet TV? Surely you are joking.

And what is going to happen 1/4 way through the month the subscriber exceeds their bandwidth cap? Is Apple going to refund their money?

This could end up being Apple’s first taste of failure in a long time.
