Microsoft officially announces Internet Explorer 9
Microsoft announced today that it has officially begun work on Internet Explorer 9.
In a completely unsurprising announcement, Steven Sinofsky, president of Microsoft’s Windows and Windows Live division, today announced at the Professional Developers Conference (PDC), that development began three weeks ago on Internet Explorer 9.
Of course details are sketchy with the program so early in its development cycle, but we do know that the browser will support HTML 5, have increased JavaScript performance and will also have CSS3 support.
Mr. Sinofky admitted that Internet Explorer 8 had done poorly in speed tests when compared to the other major browsers, and this was something the company planned to focus a lot of its energy into in the next iteration of the program. According to GeekSmack, one demonstration that was showed that rendering acceleration in IE9 increased a page in BING from a speed of 14 frames per second (fps) to 60 fps without any change to the code of the page.
Don’t expect IE9 any time soon, but at least we know they are looking at some of the biggest complaints of users.
