Cyber Monday slowly fading away as less employees shop at work

Facebook sets new rules on which ad networks apps may use It used to be that online retailers would see a massive surge in sales on the Monday following Thanksgiving in the United States, but that seems to be coming to an end thanks to more broadband access at home.

Cyber Monday, as it is called, is the online equivalent of the infamous Black Friday for brick & mortar retailers.  Over the years it was estimated that up to half of working Americans did their online shopping while at work, but that seems to be changing more with each year.

According to the Los Angeles Times, as broadband access in homes has expanded, it has become less necessary for employees to do their shopping while at work.  While this is lessening the strain on the Internet itself, which sometimes was unusable on Cyber Monday, it is making it more difficult for online retailers to pinpoint when they will see the influx of customers.

The winners in this are the consumers as online retailers are now putting their items on sale in an effort to keep up with the actual Black Friday.  Why wait in a cold parking lot when you can get the same deals while sitting in your pajamas?
