Rumor: Apple in talks to buy Lala
If the rumors prove to be true, it looks like Apple may be looking to expand its dominance over the online music landscape by expanding into the cloud.
Bloombergs is reporting that “according to two people familiar with the matter”, Apple is in discussions to purchase music streaming service Lala.
Lala began as a site where people could trade CDs and get access to music they already owned online so they could listen to it from any computer. Last year the company changed gears somewhat and made it so you could listen to any of its 8 million licensed songs once, and then you could pay 10 cents per song to listen to it more.
It has long been rumored that Apple has wanted to expand its presence in the online music space, and with all of the licensing already in place, this be a ready made solution for the famous company.
No timeline or purchasing price have been revealed.
UPDATE: According to The New York Times, the deal is done.
