Nook delays: Barnes & Noble offers $100 compensation
Barnes & Noble has announced that it will compensate some customers affected by delivery delays with its e-reader “nook”. They’ll receive a $100 gift certificate, worth more than a third of the device itself.
The compensation will be available to customers who ordered before Nov. 20, the planned deadline for ensuring Christmas delivery. The firm still hopes to get a nook out to most of these customers this week and naturally the compensation is only for those who don’t get the device.
Considering the company didn’t have to do anything other than offer a refund to anyone who wanted to cancel their order, this appears a smart move. The $100 certificate comes across as extremely generous compensation for something which is hardly a life-ruining experience, and given there’s a good chance many users will spend the credit on digital titles for their new toy, the actual cost borne the firm won’t be that much.
