Why Firefox really isn’t the world’s most popular browser
If you read this week that Firefox has overtaken Internet Explorer worldwide, don’t believe the hype. While Mozilla’s browser is gaining ground, Microsoft’s browser remains the most used by far.
The confusion is down to the way the figures are presented. Based on figures collated by Statcounter, this is the first week a version Firefox has been the most widely used individual browser version (namely Firefox 3.5). However, that’s more of a statistical quirk as Internet Explorer users appear to be at the mid-point of switching from version 7 to the most recent release, version 8.
If you take into account all editions of each browser, Internet Explorer still has a lead over Firefox of roughly two-to-one worldwide. That’s not to say Firefox isn’t gaining or will never take top spot (it’s already done so in Germany), but this week’s figures are barely symbolic, let alone significant.

I use both firefox and IE8.
Firefox is so stable and i rarely ever have any problems with it.
IE on the other hand.. I can easily see why it is nicknamed “Internut Exploder”. I have had alot of problems with both 7 and 8 over the years, with lots of freezing and crashing. Some add ons with IE cause huge problems like Java and Adobe reader and fixing the issues takes some time and patience

I first tried Firefox in 2006 and I honestly never looked back since then. If only IE doesn’t come bundled with Windows…
