Yahoo shutting down MyBlogLog next month

December 23, 2009

Microsoft removing XML support in wake of legal decisionIt looks like Yahoo is going to shut down popular blogging widget MyBlogLog next month, leaving more than a few people scratching their heads.

Founded in Jan. 2005 as a king of cross-blog social network, MyBlogLog was sold to Yahoo in January 2007 for $10 million, and then began the odd case of how the search company really did nothing with it.

Now ReadWriteWeb is reporting that the service will be shut down next month, just once again proving that Yahoo has no clue what it is doing when it comes to social networking.  Mash and SpotM are just a couple of the other failed social sites from Yahoo, and MyBlogLog will soon be added to the list.

Interestingly, TheNextWeb is reporting that Yahoo received several offers to buy the service, but while the company had no use for the data it generates, it didn’t want to hand it over to someone else who might know what to do with it.  So instead of making some of its investment back, Yahoo just opted to shut it down completely.

Perhaps Yahoo should just give up on the whole social thing?
