Escaped convict taunts police on Facebook – and is still on the run

Escaped convict taunts police on Facebook - and is still on the runAn escaped convict is currently giving the police the runaround, in a very real sense, by taunting his would-be captors with regular Facebook updates. Is this what social networking was intended to be used for?

The answer to that is quite clearly no, but this incident, which is still ongoing, is one that says a great deal about where society has come to.

According to The Daily Mail, Craig ‘Lazie’ Lynch, 28, was serving a seven-year sentence in jail for aggravated burglary. But he escaped from Hollesley Bay Prison in Suffolk, England, in September and has been on the run ever since.

You would imagine most escaped convicts would choose to lay low for a while, keeping their head down, and hiding out until they could make good their escape. But not Lynch, who instead chose to create a Facebook account which he has since used to taunt police about his whereabouts and brag about how he has beaten the system.

Christmas was no exception, with Lynch even posting a picture of himself holding a cooked Christmas turkey and the line, “If any of you was doubtin my freedom. Here’s proof. How the f*** could i get my hands on a bird like this in jail. ha ha.” He also bragged, “Wow it really is xmas ha ha i cant beleive i made it f*** tha police.”

At the time of writing, Lynch has over 5,000 fans, although there’s a split between those who support him and his cause and those who think he’s a criminal who needs locking back up. Either way, Lynch is now something of a Facebook celebrity, with the fans residing all over the world.

Two things I don’t understand are: Lynch was reportedly nearing the end of his sentence, so why escape at that time? How have the police and Facebook not been able to work together to work out Lynch’s location – surely it can’t be that hard.

It appears that the much hyped alleged ‘UK Big Brother System’ is too busy reading ‘Joe Public’s’ Faxes, e-mails,Texts and listening and recording our phone calls to be able to perform their duty catching real criminals does it not?

As is usual: UK laws protect the criminals whilst Victimizing the Victims of Crime.
