Google announces Android event for Jan. 5
It appears Google is taking a page from Apple’s playbook by announcing a mysterious press event for two days before the Consumer Electronics Show next week. What will be announced? What will be discussed … isn’t it obvious?
The good folks over at All Things Digital just got an invite to an Android press event to be hosted at Google’s corporate headquarters on Jan. 5 at 10:00 a.m. PST. The only hint as to what will be discussed is the invite does discuss the Android operating system, but no details beyond that. This date coincides perfectly with the rumors we have been hearing as the launch date for the Nexus One, the long rumored Google phone.
To just add more credence that something is definitely afoot, Tmo News is reporting that a new page showed up in the internal T-Mobile computer system today that lists a “Google Android Phone” as coming in “early January.” The page reads:
Google, with support from T-Mobile, is scheduled to launch a new Android device in early January. The Google phone will be sold solely by Google via the Web.
- Support for this device including troubleshooting and exchanges will be managed by Google and HTC.
- T-Mobile will offer service support including billing, coverage, features and rate plans.
Additional details and StreamLine content regarding the launch of Google’s Android phone will be coming in early January.
The details are certainly falling into place for this device, the only thing we are missing now is the price which will hopefully pop up in the very near future. At least we finally have confirmation of how it will be sold.
Apple famously did something similar to this press event back in 2007 with the announcement of the first version of the iPhone. It was announced close to the time of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and, well, we all know which item people can still tell you about with ease from that year. Will the Nexus One have the same impact?
