ESPN to launch 3D sports network in June
Ever wished the impact of a quarterback in a football game felt more immersive? ESPN is here to make your dream come true!
ESPN announced today that it will be launching a new television channel that will broadcast events in 3D. The new channel will launch in June of this year with a World Cup soccer match. The new channel is expected to broadcast 85 events over the course of its first year and will include college basketball games, events from the X Games and more. When no 3D event is going on, the channel will be dark, so expect long breaks in between events.
Viewers will of course need a 3D television to view the events, but there are several units expected to be announced this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
This new channel is considered to be a test to see how the technology does, but ESPN has said it is committed to the project through at lease June 2011.
