HP’s first touch netbook launches at CES
The Apple Tablet won’t be introduced until March, but HP is already showing off its first Mini 5102 netbook with an optional touch screen at CES in Las Vegas. The really good news is just how little this major upgrade will cost.
The HP Mini 5102 may not be a pure tablet, instead adding a touch screen to the very popular netbook form factor. It’s not clear which design will have a more lasting impact, but HP has managed to bring the cost of adding a touch screen to this netbook for just $50 extra.
The base price of the Mini 5102 is $400 with an HD-ready screen resolution running the Intel Atom N450 processor. The netbook also has a carrying handle and face recognition built in that allows the user to log in using only the webcam.
HP isn’t the first company to dream up a touch netbook, with the Asus T91 and Dell Latitude 2100 already having been introduced in 2009. This new trend in optional touch-capability in netbooks could means that touch could be the trend to watch in 2010.
