Google Docs adding file storageIt seems that Google really does want to become the center of your online life. As if handling your email, feed reading, instant messaging and more wasn’t already enough, now the company wants to store your files for you.

For ages now there have been rumors of a Google product named “GDrive” which would be an online file storage system. The rumor has circulated and circulated, but the product has never surfaced. Now all of a sudden there is an announcement that you will be able to store any type of file you want in your Google Docs account.

According to the Google Docs blog, the service will be rolled out over the next few weeks and will allow you to store files up to a maximum size of 250 MB with a cap of 1 GB of storage.  Additional storage will be available at the rate of $.25 for each additional GB of storage per year.  You will also be able to share storage folders with other users to allow groups to collaborate on projects.

No word yet on an uploader for the service, but that seems to be a given.
