Facebook convict arrested - 15 minutes of fame come to inevitable conclusionA prisoner who escaped from custody in September before coming something of an Internet celebrity has been caught by police. During his time on the run, the escapee taunted the authorities with status updates and photographs on Facebook. But his 15 minutes of fame have now come to their inevitable conclusion.

News of Craig ‘Lazie’ Lynch’s cheeky updates on Facebook while on the run from prison hit the headlines in December. A photo of the convict enjoying Christmas dinner must have particularly rankled with police.

But Lynch wasn’t without his fans, as thousands of people befriended him or visited group’s set up in his honor on Facebook. He somehow became something of a national hero for evading the authorities’ attempts to catch and re-imprison him.

However, according to The Times, Lynch’s time on the run came to an end on Wednesday morning when he was arrested by the Metropolitan Police in Kent. He has since appeared at Bexleyheath Magistrates Court charged with escaping from lawful custody.

May I suggest an open prison may not be the best place to let him see out the rest of his sentence.
