NASA offers cut-price shuttles in ultimate January sale

NASA offers shuttles in ultimate January saleIf you’ve managed to survive Christmas and the January credit card bill arrival with a few bucks left over, NASA has got an offer for you. They’ve slashed the sale price of the Endeavour and Atlantis shuttles from $42 million to $28 million.

The other surviving shuttle, Discovery, will be relocating to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. That’s the current home to the prototype shuttle Enterprise, which could also be available if the price is right.

For those on a tighter budget, NASA is also giving away shuttle engines, which failed to find any buyers when offered previously for between $400,000 and $800,000. The only downside is that the recipient must pay the shipping costs. At around 7,000lbs apiece, you can rule out the USPS “If it fits, it ships” boxes.

Those who do take up the offer might find a hidden bonus with their package. As we reported earlier today, NASA staff recently discovered a bag of cocaine stashed in the Kennedy Space Center.
