McGraw-Hill CEO confirms Apple Tablet a day early – Steve Jobs likely goes mad
The day has finally arrived. It’s Jan. 27, and Apple is set to unveil its new Tablet PC at a special media event. Steve Jobs will take to the stage and instantly cut through all the rumors and speculation that has been spouted in recent months. Unfortunately for him and Apple, McGraw-Hill CEO Terry McGraw sneaked the news out a day early.
Apple really doesn’t like leaks, especially about as-yet-unannounced products. Steve Jobs has been known to throw tantrums and haul companies which have stolen his limelight over the coals in the past. So I’m guessing Terry McGraw is off Jobs’ Christmas card list.
McGraw was on CNBC when he was asked about rumors that the company’s textbooks would be on the Tablet. He responded:
Yeah, very exciting. Yes, they’ll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95 percent of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one. So now with the tablet you’re going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The Tablet is going to be just really terrific.
Oops. Big mistake, Terry. Still, at least we know we’re not all getting hyped up about tomorrow for no reason. The Apple Tablet is finally going to be shown, and we’ll also find out what the damn thing is to be called. My money’s on ‘iPad’.
