Twitter forcing users to change passwords in wake of phishing attack
Twitter has been under a new round of phishing attacks, and if you get an email from Twitter telling you need to reset your password, you probably really do.
Users of the popular Twitter service have been reporting password problems all morning. Apparently a new round of phishing attacks have occurred, and while the exact nature of how the passwords were procured still isn’t clear, it looks like a considerable number of them were harvested.
While no official statement has yet been issued by Twitter, the site does appear to be sending out emails to alert those users affected by the attack. The letter reads in part:
Due to concern that your account may have been compromised in a phishing attack that took place off-Twitter, your password was reset. Please create a new password by opening this link in your browser: (UNIQUE PASSWORD RESET LINK)
While it may be suspicious to get such an email, it does appear to be legit. Do exercise extreme caution today.
