JooJoo goes into production despite TechCrunch legal action, iPad threat
It’s easy to get caught up in the iPad coverage and forget that Apple is by no means leading the way with tablet computers. There are a host of other similar devices either on sale or being prepared for release. One of which is the JooJoo, formerly the CrunchPad, which has now gone into production despite legal action from TechCrunch hanging over its head.
The CrunchPad was meant to be the affordable alternative to the Apple tablet that everyone assumed was in development. But things didn’t go according to plan. TechCrunch’s partners in the project, Fusion Garage cut ties with the tech site and is now releasing the device under a new name. It’s called the JooJoo and it costs $499, which is the same price as the entry-level iPad.
According to PC Mag, the JooJoo is now in full production, with the first pre-orders being fulfilled by the end of February. However, TechCrunch launched legal action in December, which Fusion Garage is now seeking to have dismissed.
This is one device whose future isn’t clear. The product has surely lost momentum in light of Apple showing its hand, and there’s no guarantee the law will come down on the side of Fusion Garage. The first meeting between the two sides is scheduled for March 22.
