Prisoner updates Facebook from jail
What is it with British prisoners and Facebook? They seem overly keen to brag of their crimes and build notoriety through the social networking site. This time, the prisoner was still in jail at the time he created a profile.
In December 2009 a British prisoner who had escaped from jail used Facebook to taunt the police as to his whereabouts and what he was getting up to while on the run. His 15 minutes of fame came to an end when he was finally caught and arrested in January.
However, Craig Lynch obviously inspired others to take similar action.
According to The Telegraph, Brendan Rawsthorn, 25, used a mobile phone smuggled into HMP Wolds to create a Facebook profile, upload a photo of himself in his cell, and brag about how easy he was finding prison, saying, “All day is playing on my PlayStation and listing to music with my feet up, drinking prison home brew. I was pissed.”
Facebook has now removed the profile, while the company in charge of the prison is committed to preventing mobile phones being used inside its walls. And what a fine job it appears to be doing.
