Tech journalists discuss Apple iPad on Charlie Rose – David Carr is a fanboy
I think it’s fair to say that the jury is still out on the Apple iPad. While most of us have no doubts it will be a huge success, especially at the $499 entry-level asking price, there are some aspects of the device which raise concerns. What do big-hitting tech journalists Walt Mossberg, Micheal Arrington, and David Carr think?
All three appeared on The Charlie Rose Show to discuss the iPad and how it’s likely to stack up in the emerging tablet market.
Walt Mossberg seems the least sure about the product, stating he wants to use one for an extended period of time before he truly nails his colors to the mast. Michael Arrington is more keen, although he has reservations about the lack of Flash and the exclusive partnership with AT&T continuing. But David Carr comes across as a dedicated fanboy, believing the iPad has no chance of failing.
I think the iPad will prove to be massively successful and usher in a new age of tablet computers. However, there’s still a way to go yet and I don’t think the iPad in its current iteration will have it all its own way. There are enough alternatives on the way to provide healthy competition.
