China shuts down “hacker training site”
Three people have been arrested as part of an operation in China to close a Web site said to have given hacking tips to 170,000 people. The Black Hawk Safety Net site is also reported to have taken just over $1 million (in U.S. dollars) in premium membership fees.
China Daily quotes police as saying 50 officers were involved in the operation, which seized five computers, nine web servers and a car.
The site, which used the address 3800cc.com is said to have offered hacking training courses costing between $15 and $300, as well as providing Trojan horse files to download. Sharing such files is illegal under recently changed Chinese laws.
The arrests and seizures took place in November but have only just been announced. That rules out it being a response to the recent high-profile attacks on firms including Google, though officials may have chosen to publicize the operation now to show China is taking hacking seriously.
