Google’s ‘Parisian Love’ SuperBowl ad was recycled from YouTube
Maybe Google was taking advantage of the down economy to get a good deal on its SuperBowl ad titled, “Parisian Love.” Apparently it’s nothing new though, as the video was part of a collection of seven Search Stories that have been on YouTube for months.
In case you missed the SuperBowl altogether, Google aired an ad last night chronicling a love story through search terms. The ad was a full minute long and backed by nothing but music.
Apparently that video was released last November as part of a group of YouTube videos called Search Stories. Of the seven videos, the SuperBowl ad was the first one to appear on television.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt admits that the video is recycled on the Google Blog and that Google never intended to create a SuperBowl ad. But it’s not like the ad was bad in terms of video quality or concept.
That statement was akin to saying that Google can outshine most other advertisers in its sleep. And maybe it’s true; that ad was one of the most emotionally-engaging technology ads during this year’s Big Game, but Schmidt doesn’t even play at being demure about it.
Other Search Stories videos include one for the holidays, one called, “Mad to Live” that was inspired by Jack Kerouac, one called, “High School,” and one titled, “Out of Office.” It seems as though Google has virtually every demographic well covered in these videos.
Now that one of the shorts was on during the SuperBowl, the word is out and savvy Web users will be flocking to check out the other videos. So Google didn’t even create a new ad for the SuperBowl and it’s likely to have fans flocking to the Web to see more ads?
That might just be the biggest genius move of them all. So what did you think of Google’s first Search Stories ad?
