President Obama is looking to hire a social media manager
Have you ever dreamed of a job where you get paid to hang out on social networks all day? Want to do nothing but write Tweets on Twitter? President Obama wants you!
A job application has gone up on the official Web site of President Barack Obama for a “Social Networks Manager.” While the form doesn’t go into asking great details about your experience in qualifications, it does provide an upload feature for your resume, so get to work on editing your resume now.
Your duties would include:
The Social Networks Manager is responsible for maintaining the Democratic Party and Organizing for America accounts on all social networks (such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace accounts, etc.) The Social Networks Manager works closely with the rest of the New Media department to execute grassroots campaigns to advance the President’s agenda for change.
While all of this sounds like a lot of fun, the job notice makes it abundantly clear that this isn’t a goof off job by stating, “Ready to work hard; this isn’t a 9-5 sort of job.”
The Wall Street Journal spoke with Mia Cambronero, the current person in this position, and she said that she is stepping down from this role, but did not say what the reasons were, or where she would be going from here. Ms. Cambronero did state that they are looking for someone who can start immediately.
It’s difficult to say what qualifies a person for this job as social media is still in its infancy. While many people have taken to calling themselves “experts” and “gurus” in the field of social media, with the ever changing landscape, it is difficult to say who really is even close to being a true expert.
No deadline for applications is mentioned, but if you want to throw your hat in the ring, one would imagine the sooner the better.
