Barbie turns computer engineer
Mattel is to release a computer engineer version of Barbie following a public vote. But it’s questionable how many voters were truly sincere.
As what’s billed as a project to inspire career choices among females, the firm decided to release two new Barbie dolls based on the results of a survey of girls and a poll on the official Barbie site. While the girls opted for a news anchor doll, the poll went for computer engineer. That’s prompted some extremely cynical speculation that voting may have been dominated by Internet geeks, and it has to be said that several tech Web sites championed that option.
And if you’re wondering what a computer engineer looks like, well, apparently it’s the same as a normal Barbie but with glasses, a Bluetooth earpiece, a t-shirt with binary code and a pink laptop.
No word yet on whether computer engineer Barbie will be signed for Microsoft’s project Pink.
